yle is a comital region in south-western Scotland. It forms the central bailieage of the sheriffdom of Ayr.

Geography and Politics

The region centres around Strath Ayr, which also provides a neat boundary between its two largest landholders. North of the river, most of the land is owned by Alexander Stewart, High Steward of Scotland. The land south of the river is part of the royal demense.

Ayr, where the river empties into the Firth of Forth, is the region's main market town and trading port. It is defended by Ayr castle, a royal fortress and seat of the Sheriff of Ayr.
